Meet the Tutors

Ask a Teacher employs more than 29 teachers in various cities across the province. The tutor you are chatting with may be in Windsor, Ottawa, Kirkland Lake, or anywhere in between.

All the tutors on Ask a Teacher are certified by the Ontario College of Teachers, and have submitted clean police checks to TVO. Our entire faculty has classroom experience. Most teach in classrooms during the day.

AFACTOR - Math
Afactor has an honours Bachelor of Mathematics degree from the University of Waterloo. Afactor is a specialist in mathematics and has had experience teaching in Australia and Germany, but mostly this tutor teaches math at the senior level in Ontario. Afactor enjoys tutoring students and believes that helping you in your current math course is A "FACTOR" in your success!

BIOME - Chemistry, Science
Biome has received a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Education. This tutor is able to help students with Science, Biology, Chemistry, and grade 9/10 Mathematics problems.

BOOKMARK - English
BOOKMARK is a high school English and Social Sciences teacher who has taught in both Canada and Taiwan. This tutor holds an honours Bachelor of Arts degree from Queen's University, as well as a Bachelor of Education and an English honours specialist qualification from Nipissing University. At school, BOOKMARK is involved with the Free the Children volunteer organization, and coaches cross-country running.

CADUCEUS - English
Educated in the UK, CADUCEUS has degrees in English from McGill University, University College London and the University of California at Berkeley. International experience includes several years of teaching English as a Second Language in Japan. Open to a variety of approaches to the appreciation of literature and language, this tutor thinks it's very important to have a good sense of humour and an open mind.

CARDINAL1 - Chemistry, Science
CARDINAL1 is a graduate of Chemical Engineering from the University of Waterloo. This tutor has more than 25 years of experience teaching Science, Chemistry, and Mathematics. CARDINAL1 was head of the science department for 17 years in a large high school in Sudbury and prior to teaching worked for five years as a professional engineer in the mining industry. Now retired, CARDINAL1 continues to work for TVO, Nipissing University, Canadore College, and the Near North District School Board.

CLASSROOM - Chemistry, Science
CLASSROOM's background includes a degree in Chemical Engineering with several years of working experience in a pilot plant facility in the areas of photoreceptor and photogenerators. This tutor holds a Bachelor of Education with a Chemistry honours specialist in teaching from University of Western Ontario. CLASSROOM has been teaching Chemistry and Science to high school students for more than eight years. CLASSROOM hopes to help students reach their potential as well as relating real-world industrial applications to student learning.

DIGIDOG - Physics, Science
DIGIDOG has been teaching high school students Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science in Canada and Switzerland for more than fifteen years. DIGIDOG also lectured at the University of Western Ontario in the Department of Computer Science for one year. DIGIDOG has a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of Waterloo, Master of Science in Physics from the University of Guelph, and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto in Intermediate/Senior Science and Mathematics.

ENVISION - English
ENVISION teaches secondary school English and Dramatic Arts. This tutor holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Guelph and a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Western Ontario. Areas of particular interest and experience include Media Studies and Literacy. In the past this tutor chaired the school's Literacy Team, presided over EQAO testing, and initiated a daily reading program that has become a fixed part of the daily school schedule. Current leadership roles in the school include staff advisor for the Environmental Club and for drama competitions such as the Sears Festival.

EUREKA - Physics, Science
Eureka has a B.Sc. in Honours Physics (Co-op) from the University of Waterloo and a Bachelor of Education degree from University of Western Ontario with Additional Specialist Qualifications in both Physics and Math. This tutor has taught physics and math for over 20 years and currently teaches physics and science for the TDSB (Toronto District School Board). Eureka has coached students for numerous Physics and Mathematics contests and recently spearheaded a Robotics program at school. Last year Eureka taught the Grade 12 Physics e-learning course. Eureka enjoys biking, coaching soccer, and playing the saxophone.

FIZZICKS - Math
FIZZICKS graduated from the University of Guelph with an honours degree in Physical Science and Mathematics. FIZZICKS also received a Bachelor of Education degree from York University with qualifications in Mathematics, Physics and Technology. This tutor is currently teaching Math and Physics at an Ontario high school. In addition, this tutor has worked as a Calculus tutor for the University of Guelph and is also a volunteer firefighter.

GEOSUM - Math
GEOSUM graduated from Queens University with a Master of Science degree and Bachelor of Education in Mathematics and Geography. This tutor has been teaching and tutoring grades 9 to 12 math in Eastern Ontario for many years. GEOSUM enjoys using new technologies in mathematics and working with students from all over Ontario.

HELPM - Math
HELPM has been teaching Math and Business computers for the last 23 years. HELPM enjoys interacting with students on a one-on-one basis and looks forward to helping you answer your questions.

HERA - Biology, Science
HERA earned a bachelor's degree in Biology and a master's degree in Genetics from McMaster University. This tutor worked for several years in the field of molecular genetics and was involved in the Human Genome Project at the Ontario Genomics Institute. After designing and instructing various biotechnology courses at Seneca College and the Michener Institute, this tutor developed an interest in science education. HERA completed a BEd at the University of Toronto and currently teaches high school Science and Biology.

IMPRINT - English
Imprint is a Secondary Teacher who specializes in English and ESL and is the school Librarian. This tutor has a bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature and a Master's Degree in Adolescent Education. In school, Imprint supervises the Creative Writing Club, White Pine Book Club, student newspaper and is a part of the student success team. Outside of school, Imprint enjoys photography, travel, and reading.

KARNA - Math
KARNA holds an honours Bachelor of Science from University of Toronto, specializing in Computer Science and Mathematics, and is working toward a degree in Biochemistry. KARNA gained a Bachelor of Education from University of Toronto (OISE) and is qualified to teach Mathematics, Computer Studies (Computer Science and Computer Engineering) and Science at the intermediate and senior level (Grades 7-12), with an honours specialist qualification in Computer Studies and Mathematics.

MATHBEAR - Math
MATHBEAR is very pleased to be part of the Ask a Teacher team. MATHBEAR has honours specialist qualifications in Mathematics and specializes in teaching at the intermediate and senior levels. MATHBEAR is actively involved in curriculum writing for high school. MATHBEAR enjoys working with students and teaching them many aspects of mathematics.

MATHGUIDE - Math
MATHGUIDE received a Bachelor of Science (Mathematics major) from University of Victoria in 2001, and a professional teaching certification in 2002 (B.C. College of Teachers). This tutor is certified to teach Intermediate/Senior Math in Ontario. MATHGUIDE has taught Principles of Mathematics, Pure Math, and Calculus. In addition, this tutor worked as teaching assistant at University of Victoria for three years, and tutored university students for about five years. MATHGUIDE developed Secondary/College Level Computer Science Programming Instructional Units for use in a new information technology text for schools in Central America and China.

MEGARA - English
MEGARA teaches full time at a secondary school and has been teaching since 2000. This tutor has a Bachelor of Arts in History and Sociology from University of Waterloo, a Bachelor of Education from OISE at the University of Toronto, and is currently finishing a Master of Arts in Educational Administration at OISE/UT.

MR_PI - Math
Mr_Pi graduated from the University of Toronto with an hounours Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology, and from McMaster University with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering. In addition, Mr_Pi received his Bachelor of Education degree from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto. He holds qualifications to teach intermediate and senior mathematics and computer science courses. He is currently employed by the Toronto Catholic District School Board where he teaches senior level mathematics and computer courses. Mr_Pi enjoys helping students and is looking forward to help you with your mathematics questions.

MSTUTOR - Chemistry, Science
MSTUTOR received a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Toronto in 1984 and worked six years for DuPont Canada at a research centre in Kingston. During that time, this tutor was awarded a patent on a Polymer composition, and received excellence awards from DuPont Canada in 1988 and 1990. In 1991, MSTUTOR received a Bachelor of Education in Mathematics and Chemistry. This tutor has taught high school from September 1991 to present.

NEWTON - Physics, Science
NEWTON has always had a passion for learning and teaching others about math and science. This tutor has taught in the Upper Canada District School Board and the Toronto District School Board, as well as spending three years engineering fibre optic components with a telecommunications company. NEWTON holds a master's degree in Applied Solid State Physics, and tutors Science and Physics with Ask a Teacher.

PICARD - Chemistry, Science
PICARD taught Physics and Chemistry at the secondary level for 33 years before retiring in 2004. This tutor was nicknamed "Evil Doctor Chemistry & Physics." Some of this tutor's favourite class activities and contests included visiting the Chemical Store (aka supermarket), Mousetrap Derby, Spring Fling, and Ball Bearing Bounce. PICARD has kept active in retirement by tutoring and supply teaching.

READS4FUN - English
Reads4fun is an English and Special Education teacher at the secondary level. Certified by the OCT, Reads4fun has completed an Honours BA from Queen’s, an Honours Bachelor of Social Work from Lakehead, and a Bachelor of Education from Trent. An avid reader, Reads4fun has taught all levels of English courses, Careers, and worked as a resource support teacher. Reads4fun has a great interest in special education, reading, and traveling.

SCIENCEFAIR - Biology, Science
SCIENCEFAIR has an honours Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Guelph and a Bachelor of Education degree from Brock University. This tutor has spent many years in the classroom as a secondary biology teacher and is currently a Student Success teacher in an Ontario high school. SCIENCEFAIR enjoys kayaking, biking, snowboarding, rescuing puppies and traveling around the world.

SPARKY - Math
SPARKY's areas of specialty are Mathematics and Guidance. SPARKY enjoys every minute of the time spent with students online!

SUBTEXT - English
Subtext teaches full time at a Secondary School and holds an Honours Specialist Degree in English and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from York University. Subtext’s specialties are in English and the Dramatic Arts. At school, Subtext directs and choreographs school plays and musicals and believes that the arts and literature go hand in hand. This tutor also has international experience teaching Ontario Secondary credits in England and uses technology daily in the classroom to enhance learning and continue the appreciation of literature.

TESSEL - Math
TESSEL holds a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from McMaster University and a Graduate Diploma of Education from the University of Wollongong in Australia. This tutor has been teaching Mathematics and Physics at the high school level for more than 9 years and has extensive private tutoring experience. Outside of school, TESSEL enjoys the outdoors, rock climbing and reading. TESSEL looks forward to helping you with your homework questions!

TRIGGY - Math
Triggy has a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto. This tutor has been teaching Grades 9 to 12 Mathematics for a number of years in the York Region District School Board and I believes all students are able to succeed in math with the right learning and studying strategies. Triggy looks forward to helping students with their homework difficulties!

WRITER - English
WRITER frequently publishes articles in newspapers and magazines. Currently an occasional teacher, WRITER has taught writing courses for the University of Western Ontario and the University of Toronto's School of Continuing Studies, and a variety of subjects in Ontario's secondary schools.
