In order to be "activated" by the tutor and receive help, you must ask a question related to a topic within the Ontario high school curriculum about one of the following subjects: math, science, English or research, according to the subject of the Chat Room you are in. Be as specific and complete as possible. Please be aware that tutors do not have access to ILC course material, so they won’t know, for instance, what’s on page 112 of your course book. They may, however, be able to help with key educational concepts and problems. For more ILC support, please go to the Courses section of the ILC website. You can contact ILC staff with specific questions.
For more help, check out Chalk Talk Tutorials, real-time “virtual classrooms” on selected evenings. These interactive tutorials cover topics in Ontario high school math and science courses.
The Chat Rooms are free, and open Sunday to Thursday, 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. During the summer break, hours are 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Once you register, you can use the Chat Rooms whenever they're open.
The Chat Rooms and other sections of Ask a Teacher are for the use of residents of Ontario.
Be respectful of the tutors' time. It will help if you're prepared with your questions and you stay focused.
Be respectful of your fellow students' time. Tutors will normally help with one question at a time from each student. This allows them to help as many students as possible.
Remember that the tutor is trying to help you. A simple "thank you" goes a long way!
You are encouraged to try another tutor if you need a different perspective or area of expertise.
