User Support Technicians
NOC code: (2282) User Support Technicians
|
|
|
Description
Technology can make our lives easier and our work more efficient. It can also drive us crazy with frustration! And who do we call in the midst of our madness? Who can help soothe, calm, and boot us up again? User support technicians, those techies who seem sooooo smart and can make us feel sooooo dumb! (And be soooo polite while they're doing it.)
Technicians in this group provide first-line technical support to computer users who are having problems with computer hardware, computer applications, and communications software. They know their stuff inside and out. Then they have to know how to explain it so that the user on the other end of the phone line can fix it themselves. They probably have a list of "frequent problems" that are fairly routine, but they also have to do a little detective work sometimes to try to figure how what's wrong, how it got that way, and how to fix it.
Specific duties
User support technicians:
- Communicate electronically, by phone, or in person with computer users experiencing difficulties to determine and document problems experienced
- Consult user guides, technical manuals and other documents to research and implement solutions
- Provide advice and training to users in response to identified difficulties
- Collect, organize and maintain a problems and solutions log for use by other technical support analysts
- Participate in the redesign of applications and other software
- May supervise other technical support workers in this group.
