This course enables you to consolidate your understanding of linear relations and extend your problem-solving and algebraic skills through investigation, the effective use of technology, and hands-on activities. You will develop and graph equations in analytic geometry; solve and apply linear systems, using real-life examples; and explore and interpret graphs of quadratic relations. You will investigate similar triangles, the trigonometry of right triangles, and the measurement of three-dimensional figures. You will consolidate your mathematical skills as you solve problems and communicate your thinking.

You will need a scientific calculator and access to the Internet.
Unit 1: Measurement
You will use systems of measurement whenever we purchase food, follow recipes, make repairs, or describe our height and weight. In Unit 1, you will solve problems involving commonly used units of length, weight, area, and volume. These problems involve the two systems of measurement commonly used in North America: imperial and metric. In any workplace, you will find it very useful to know both measurement systems and to be able to convert between them. Later in Unit 1, you will apply your knowledge by finding the surface area or volume of prisms, spheres, cones, and cylinders. You will answer Key Questions at the end of lessons and then, at the end of the Unit, you will submit them all for evaluation.
Unit 2: Trigonometry
In Unit 2, you will investigate the properties of similar triangles and determine the primary trigonometric ratios. The primary trigonometric ratios will provide you with a method to solve right-triangle problems in real-life applications.
Unit 3: Linear Functions
In Unit 3, you will explore linear functions. In Lesson 11, you will solve equations in one variable and translate written descriptions of equations into mathematical expressions. In
Lesson 12, you will investigate and learn about the properties of slope, and how to find the equation of a line. You will also solve problems involving rate of change. In Lesson 13, you will use a variety of techniques to graph two linear equations and find their point of intersection. You will review paper-and-pencil techniques and learn how to use graphing software. In Lesson 14, you will use an algebraic method to find the intersection point of two lines. Finally, in Lesson 15, you will learn another algebraic technique called elimination. Once you master this technique, you will use it to solve systems of equations derived from word problems.
Unit 4: Quadratic Functions
The graphs of linear functions are straight lines. Not all relationships are linear, however. In Unit 4, as you explore more complex relationships, you will discover that some have graphs that are non-linear shapes. One type of non-linear relationship is a special curve that describes a quadratic relationship. You will describe the nature of change in a quadratic function using finite differences in a table of values, and you will determine the zeros and maximum or minimum value of a quadratic function using graphical and algebraic techniques.
This is the final unit and it will conclude with a Practice Test. Even though you will not be marked on the Practice Test, you should try to solve all the questions. The Practice Test will help you to prepare for the Final Test, which you must pass to receive credit for this course.
