You can only apply for additional courses after you pass the first unit of your first course. Use the Administration Form (PDF, 949 KB).

Residents of Ontario

You must be:

  • under the age of 18
  • an Ontario high school student excused from attendance by their local school board
  • a Canadian citizen, a landed immigrant, or a refugee, or an Ontario resident holding a diplomatic visa or ministerial permit.

Fees

There is a non-refundable fee of $40 for each course. This administration fee covers the loan of course and supplementary materials, evaluation by certified teachers, and a final test.

How to Enrol

  1. Check the ILC high school courses list and choose the course you want.
    • Make a note of the course name and code number.
  2. Download the Registration Package for Ontario Residents Under 18 and complete the enclosed registration form (PDF, 1.52 MB).
  3. You must provide a letter from your local school board acknowledging your intent to provide home schooling and that your child is released from compulsory attendance at school.
    If you do not have such a letter, we suggest you use the sample letters found in the registration package:
    • Appendix A - Student Status Request for Enrolment with the Independent Learning Centre
    • Appendix B - Letter Indicating Notification of Intent to Provide Home Schooling
    • Appendix C - Letter in Response to a Parent's Notification
    We recommend that you submit Appendix A and a completed Appendix B to your local school board . You may also provide Appendix C to the school board to complete and sign. Please note that you will be required to submit this letter on a yearly basis.
  4. Submit an official Ontario Student Transcript or Grade 8 Provincial Report Card.
  5. Photocopy the form if you are enrolling more than one child. Please make sure that all of the required information is complete so that we can process your application.
  6. Submit all required documentation along with registration form and payment of $40.
  7. If you have any special needs and required accommodations in course work or test taking, please notify ILC when you enrol.
  8. If your application is complete, your course materials will arrive by mail in five to ten business days. If it is incomplete it will be returned to you.
